In the late seventies, a warehouse known as the Compound became a hub of experimentation and artistic expression under the guidance of Naut Humon. It was within this creative space that the groundwork was laid for the formation of the globally recognized Asphodel recording label. Asphodel went on to foster an array of groundbreaking projects spanning genres and disciplines, showcasing the talents of renowned artists such as Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Ann Magnuson, Diamanda Galas, DJ Spooky, Rhythm and Noise, Tipsy, Iannis Xenakis, Christian Marclay, John Cage, Richard Devine, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Mix Master Mike, among many others.

The Compound also birthed RML CineChamber, a groundbreaking endeavor in immersive audio-visual experiences. With its unique design, RML CineChamber became a renowned surround 10-screen wrap-around cinema experience, captivating audiences and pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling. As the creative energy continued to flourish, the operations of RML CineChamber transitioned from the Compound to the Asphodel Label building, providing RML with a dedicated space to further its exploration of immersive art.

Under the continued guidance of Naut Humon, RML expanded its reach and reputation, attracting support from esteemed entities such as Obscura Digital, UCSD, ICAS, Gray Area, and Goldsmith's University, London. Collaborating with a diverse range of visual artists, musicians, engineers, designers, curators, and theorists from around the world, RML remains at the forefront of immersive art experiences. Today, RML finds its home at Gray Area San Francisco, where it continues to research and pioneer new approaches to spatial envelopment, creating transformative audio-visual experiences that captivate audiences and redefine the possibilities of immersive artistic expressions.
